Travel and Leisure names Thai restaurant one of country’s best

Travel and Leisure magazine recently named May Kitchen + Bar to its list of the best Thai restaurants in the United States.

The popular restaurant in Vashon town was included on a list of 20 restaurants published as a June web exclusive. The author praised the eatery’s warm interior and traditional fare, particularly the pad thai, which she called the most authentic.

Owner May Chaleoy has garnered praise from critics before. In 2008, Seattle Magazine named her former Thai restaurant in the Wallingford neighborhood one of Seattle’s 10 best restaurants — an honor no Thai restaurant, up to that point, had received.

Of the most recent accolade, Chaleoy said the whole restaurant was thrilled.

“To make everyone happy, I’m happy,” she said.

The restaurant is busier than ever, Chaleoy said, and she’s considering opening a booth at the Farmers Market, where she would offer appetizers and Thai iced coffee.
