Vashon Island Day Spa opened its new location in town last month with little fanfare but has already begun serving customers in the shop where Island Thyme was formerly housed.

The spa, which has had a presence on Vashon since 1996, will offer an array of services by appointment and for walk-in customers, said owner Korina Knudson, a licensed esthetician and licensed cosmetologist with more than 20 years in the industry. She’s already seeing at least five customers a day, she said.

“I want to inspire clients who are sick of the same thing,” she said. “They want to be pampered and treated like rock stars, and I can do that for them.”

Offered at Vashon Island Day Spa are massage, facials, microdermabrasion, hair cuts and styling, teeth whitening, private yoga lessons, skin care products, jewelry, yoga and spa wear, waxing and Brazilian waxing.

Knudson had been operating the spa from her home prior to the move to the core of town, and she said she’s happy with her new location.

“We moved in and were open within six hours,” said Knudson, who has trained and worked with some of the leaders in the salon and skin industries.

She’s excited, she added, about being able to offer teeth whitening, microdermabrasions, ultrasonic facials and Brazilians at her spa — services tough to come by on Vashon, she said.

“We have facial machines that are high tech and the most advanced systems that technology can provide,” Knudson said.

Microdermabrasion will take 10 years off of one’s skin, she added. “These things are very different and now available on Vashon Island.”

She’s also pleased to be selling XanGo products, made from mangosteen puree juice and distributed on Vashon by Islander Marianne Metz — a product said to reduce wrinkles and that Knudson called “phenomenal.”

Knudson said she hopes to draw clients from not only her established customer base, but from new Vashon and Seattle clients as well.

Working with Knudson at the spa are spa coordinator Wendy-jo Weston and massage therapists Joleen Flint and Erin Mawhirter. The spa is looking for independent contractor hairdressers, Knudson added.

Owning a spa was a natural progression for the hair stylist, makeup artist and esthetician. She owned the Happy Garden spa in Vashon town for years before moving the spa to her home to accommodate her schedule as a new parent. She’s known since age 4 that she wanted to be a hairdresser, she added.

“I got my first Barbie bust at 6, and had a clientele at 12,” Knudson said.
