Island rottweiler wins award at Westminster
Cheryl Krown, artistic director of the Vashon Dance Academy, recently brought home an award that had nothing to do with dancing.
Cadey, Krown’s rottweil-er, won best of opposite sex for rottweilers at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York on Feb. 14.
“It would be like runner up in the beauty pageant,” Krown said. “It’s still a really big honor, especially at this show.”
Krown has been showing rottweilers for 20 years, but this was her first time competing at Westminster. Cadey, who is used to being around people at the dance studio, thrived at the packed and crazy Madison Square Garden, Krown said.
“It’s a bazillion people clapping, and she just feeds on it. … The judge said not only is she beautiful, but she’s really well trained and she obviously loves to show off.”
Cadey also won best of opposite sex at the Eukanuba Classic dog show in California last November and is working towards becoming a certified therapy dog.
