Anti-Iraq activist Cindy Sheehan visits Vashon | Photo

Peace activist Cindy Sheehan, center, was on Vashon on Sunday, June 8. At a private fundraising brunch to further her run for Congress against Rep. Nancy Pelosi, two Island artists, Betsy Eby and Bo Bartlett, presented her with a peace award, a painting of a peace dove. In the afternoon Sunday, Sheehan and fellow Gold Star Families member Joe Colgan spoke at the high school to an enthusiastic audience. Both Colgan and Sheehan lost sons in the Iraq war, and both are now stumping the country to end the occupation so no more sons or daughters will die. The Vashon Green Party sponsored the event. - Kate Hunter photo
