Vashon celebrates Poetry Month with two events

Vashon Bookshop will host an open mic poetry event featuring Merna Hecht’s writing students, a group dubbed The Young Write Sisters, at 6 p.m. Friday, April 15. The event is open to all ages who would like to bring a poem to read or just listen. For more information, call 463-2616.
Prizewinning poet Melissa Kwasny will have a reading at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Café Luna. A resident of Montana, Kwasny is the author of the poetry collections “The Archival Birds,” “Thistle” and “Reading Novalis in Montana,” as well as the novels “Modern Daughters of the Outlaw West” and “Trees Call for What They Need.” She is also the editor of “Toward the Open Field: Poets on the Art of Poetry 1800–1950.”
