Vashon Allied Art’s annual art auction is coming up, and this time around, the event has a theme that takes off on the silver screen.

“Hooray for Hollywood! Lights, Camera, Auction!” will take place in a huge tent on the grounds of the Blue Heron on Friday, Sept. 23, and Saturday, Sept. 24.

Following custom, the first night will be a less expensive event, featuring a buffet dinner, and Saturday’s more pricey gala will boast a catered dinner. Both events will have plenty of entertainment by local talent and will auction off works by more than 130 local artists.

All the works in the auction will be shown at a preview reception, 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at the Blue Heron.

The auction is VAA’s premier fundraising event. Money raised goes to support VAA’s programs as well as participating artists. Money for scholarships is also raised at the auctions.

Last year’s event generated a net of $100,000, including $40,000 for VAA scholarship programs, and returned over $12,000 in commissions to donating artists.
