Ober Park to transform into a dance club for one night
August 28, 2012 · Updated 11:05 AM
Islanders can close out the summer with a free deejayed night of music and dancing, set for 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Ober Park.
The event, dubbed Dance Vashon 2012, is sponsored by the Vashon Park District.
Organizers promise an electric atmosphere, with lasers, club lights, fog machines and a giant disco ball.
Two deejays — PlatterPuss (Michael Whitmore) and MirageSix (Marcus Fellbaum) — will take the stage, offering something for everyone, from soul, funk and Latin dance to techno.
Whitmore is a multi-instrumentalist and a record collector, specializing in 45 rpm records. His collection is rich in soul, funk and boogaloo records. For nine years, he worked in Los Angeles at the largest record store in the country, Amoeba Records Hollywood, and he also had a series of regular deejay jobs.
His last gig, before returning to Vashon a couple of years ago, was on the hit webcast series “The B-Side Live.” His show “Strange Cargo” is still in rotation on Voice of Vashon’s webcast, and he can be seen most First Fridays at the Heron’s Nest playing records — everything from Mr. Rogers songs to rare funk, groove and psychedelic records.
Fellbaum will bring his deep catalogue knowledge of Eurodance, techno, house, progressive, trance and dubstep and all things electronic to the evening. He received classical music training in Vienna, Austria, and has lived on Vashon for 10 years.
