Authentic Flamenco comes to Vashon

An intimate performance of traditional Flamenco music and dance will come to Vashon this week. The show, “Por el Flamenco,” will take place at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the north end grange.
The night, part of an 18-stop tour of Washington, Oregon and Idaho, is presented by Savannah Fuentes, a Flamenco dancer who says she is passionate about presenting pure, traditional Flamenco, something not often performed in the United States.
Fuentes will share the stage with fellow dancer Ricardo Chavez. Singer Jesus Montoya and guitarist Bobby de Sofia will perform authentic Flamenco music.
Jesus Montoya, a native of of Sevilla, Spain, touring professionally at the age of 13. He has sung all over the world with legendary Flamenco artists and many prestigious Opera companies.
Montoya was featured as the voice of Riuz Alonzo in the production and recording of Ainadamar Fountain of Tears, which won Grammies for "Best Classical Contemporary Composition," and "Best Opera recording" in 2007.
There are 80 seats available at the performance. The suggested donation for is $20 for adults and $8 for children. Tickets can be purchased at Vashon Bookshop and www.brownpapertickets.com.
