It’s time to celebrate summer, and that means free concerts at Ober Park are back. From 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, June 19, Afro-beat band Maya Soleil — who brought the house down at last year’s VAA Summer Music Festival — will play their eclectic mix of original, high-energy music. Concert organizers described the band as a “treat for the senses,” with fiery saxophone solos, world beats and costumed vocalists and dancers encouraging audience participation. Ensemble members hail from Zimbabwe, Guinea, Ghana, Jamaica and the United States. The annual Summer Concerts in the Park series is sponsored by Vashon Park District, Vashon Allied Arts and Windermere Vashon. All ages are invited; bring beach chairs and picnic blankets. No alcohol in the park, please.
Vashon summer concerts start June 19
