Tony Award-winning play comes to St. John Vianney

Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning play “Art” will open at 7:30 p.m. Friday and run through the weekend at St. John Vianney church.

The play is a dark comedy that premiered in Paris in 1994 and then went on to win critical acclaim during its long Broadway run.

The story revolves around three long-standing friends played by Steve Tosterud, Kirk Beeler and Rev. Marc Powell, with direction by Ken Drew. One of the characters buys a large, expensive piece of modern art that is a completely white painting. The art sparks heated conversations and raises provocative questions about art and friendship, love and truth.

“Art” will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday at St. John Vianney church. Admission is free, but a donation between $10 and $20 is suggested. Proceeds will help enhance the church’s performance space.

A question and answer session with the cast and director will follow each show.
