Salsa dance in the park
August 5, 2008 · Updated 2:23 PM
The second free concert of Vashon Park District’s summer World Music and Dance Series will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at Ober Park.
The concert will feature Cambalache, a highly skilled nine-piece Seattle-based salsa band led by Pancho Chavez.
Deeply rooted in the latest music movements developing in Cuba and Puerto Rico, the band’s eclectic style is an embodiment of the richness and diversity of Latin America.
Concert organizers say the group plays “smoking, high-energy music that is impossible to hear without having your hips starting to wiggle.”
Before the concert, Jake Matthew will teach a salsa dance class.
Everyone is invited to enjoy these evenings, and families are welcome. However, parents are advised to be prepared to keep an eye on their children.
No partners or experience is necessary to participate in the community dance.
The event is sponsored by the Vashon Park District and Vashon Folkdancers.
