Schmidt is booked on the Island as part of a national tour, but with a local twist — concert- goers will also be able to enjoy a dinner by Shefidgets Catering while hearing Schmidt sing.

Schmidt’s career spans almost 40 years and has included appearances on “Prairie Home Companion” and forays into the pop charts.

She said her performance on Friday will include selections from her new CD, “Sheltering Sky,” as well as “music, poetry, story, laughter, drama, and celebrating the moment.”

The singer’s music ranges from jazz to cabaret to folk, and she has earned rave reviews over the course of her career.

Garrison Keiilor, author and host of “Prairie Home Companion,” said “when Claudia sings a song, it stays sung.”
