Letters to the Editor

Business owners serve the Island well, deserve gratitude | Letter to the Editor

I read the article by Leslie Brown about empty storefronts, and it informed and saddened me.

I’ve only lived on the Island about nine years, but I’ve grown both fond and trusting of the people who serve us so competently and cheerfully in the stores, agencies, lumber yards, utilities, health center and so forth.

When their operations close, we lose their help, and they lose their income. Our little farm keeps us fairly busy, and we don’t have TV, so I plod along in ignorance of much of the drama of their situations.

I feel that the lovely people who take care of our needs deserve recognition, and I would like to thank them publicly for making the Island the sweet place that it is before I lose any more mental acuity.

Thanks to all who serve us Islanders, including the crew of the Beachcomber.
