Vashon is tolerant, but hatred is not acceptable | Letter to the Editor

I agree with Wilson Hu that tolerance combined with compassion and mindfulness practiced daily is the heart of a healthy community as well as a basis for a positive, productive environment. (“Vashon didn’t display the acceptance we boast,” Aug. 15.)

I believe we here on Vashon do display a great deal of tolerance and understanding, and encouragement and support for all walks of life. That’s why I live here.

I also think we see where hatred and vitriolic rhetoric are not a part of a healthy society. To say “no” to that message does not mean you lack tolerance. These folks are reaping the respect they sow.
