As we settle into our house here in Sebastopol, Calif. — a true sister city to Vashon — today I came across a large bundle of cards. It will be two years this April since David passed, his death touching all of us in some way.

In the dark and chaotic days following David’s death, I did not really read the many cards that were sent to our family and especially to Max. In reading them today, I am deeply moved by the concern, love and compassion that flowed towards us through your words.

I write to say that we are settled in our little lovely place, and Max is doing well. He is enrolled at a private Waldorf school and thriving there, where his need for nature and movement is met. I will pack away these beautiful, amazing cards, and in the years to come when we speak of David and try to unravel that knot together, he can read your words of love and know how much you cared.

We miss you, beautiful Island, beautiful community, but we are well here, in these southern and sunny parts.
