Letter to the Editor: We offer support to lieutenant’s family
July 27, 2010 · Updated 12:51 PM
It was with great sadness that we of Vashon Island Fire and Rescue received the sad news that our friend and brother, firefighter Robert Bennedsen, a graduate of Vashon High School and Seattle University, was killed this weekend in Afganistan. Our hearts go out to all his family and friends during this difficult and tragic moment in their lives. I know I speak for the whole department when I say we are here for you, and will do whatever we can to help you all through the difficult times ahead. Bob was a great man, whose memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His death is a great loss for this nation, this Island and especially for all who knew and loved him. Our fire department is devastated at hearing this news, and will stand beside his family.
— Father Tryphon, Chaplain, Vashon Island Fire & Rescue
