We read with interest the piece about actor McKay Stewart in the Jan. 17 issue of The Beachcomber (“Former islander lands part in ABC series”).

One thing that struck us about the article is what a great kid it seems he was. Vashon should be proud.

The other thing that struck us was that he called out “Sheila” Jaffe at Vashon High School as one of his favorite teachers of all time. That would be Ms. Julie Jaffe, who is now the middle school librarian. We know Julie well and have been present numerous times when students have given her similar praise. It was truly heartening to be reminded about the profound impact a great teacher can have on a student.

Vashon should be proud.
