It was informative to read Laurie Hennessey’s essay about her “me-too” experience
with a United States Senator. She brings a good point to light. That being, in many
cases women do choose to keep a prestigious job, say “no-no” to the boss and hope
for the best. I find no fault with that decision by any woman or man. It worked out
well for Mrs. Hennessy, as she points out.
There are those of us whom choose to leave their job, (in my case, as the highest-
ranking woman creative director in the worldwide Satchi & Satchi advertising
company). Calling B.S. on bad behavior, dealing with a feckless HR department,
taking legal action, resigning and moving to Vashon Island was the right choice for
me. What’s more, I’m proud to say that my decision lead a number of other women
in that office to find strength in my action and follow in kind. I believe it resulted in
class action lawsuit. That office eventually closed and while I took a little different
route to Vashon, I’m here, like Mrs. Hennessey, with no regrets.
