LETTER: Engage in climate change action opportunities

n Jan. 17, The Beachcomber’s editorial listed personal actions we can and are taking to reduce climate change. Wendy Noble’s op-ed on the health effects from fossil fuel use suggested another action: Write the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC), which is reviewing PSE’s plan for the next 20 years, and say we want coal plants to be retired and not replaced with plants using fracked gas. It is not too late to take this action. The deadline she noted (Jan. 19) was just extended to Feb. 22.

Here are two more actions to take. First, attend the Carbon-Free Vashon Town Hall at 10 a.m. on Feb. 3 at the Vashon Presbyterian Church. Second, attend the UTC’s session for public testimony about PSE on Feb. 21 between 1:30 and 7 p.m. at the Renton Community Center. For information on car/bus pooling to the hearing, contact CarbonFreeVashon@gmail.com.
