LETTER: Outgoing director served seniors well

Senior Center

Apple served seniors well

Ava Apple steps down from the helm of the Vashon Senior Center at the end of April. She has served as the executive director for six years and created a plethora of innovative programs like Bluebird Medical Transport and the Neighbor to Neighbor program. She secured funding for and oversaw a much-needed renovation of the building to make it an inviting and welcoming place. Lest we forget, she started Rainbow Bingo on the island! She is a caring soul. Her passion to help others has launched the senior center into a new orbit. I am pleased to note that Ava hasn’t wholly cut ties with the senior center; she will continue to coordinate the Neighbor to Neighbor program.

Now is the time for the community to honor and thank Ava for all her work for the Island’s elders. Please drop by the senior enter from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday to wish Ava well. There will be cake.
