Thank you Vashon Fire Department for saving our house on Christmas Day! There were so many of you who took time away from your families. You were here so fast and could not have been kinder. We lost only a small corner of our house with what could have easily been a complete loss. I feel like the luckiest person — I am even more thankful no one was hurt.

The next day we were given power thanks to Wes and Dave of PSE and Dan from D&D Electric. Dan went the extra mile to get the electric fixed in one day and find the inspector, who only comes to the island on Tuesdays, in the ferry line leaving the island. Thankfully the inspector came back.

Our house is like many of the houses on the island that is hard to get to. You all put yourselves in danger just trying to get to some homes. We are sorry about the damage to your fire truck. Now we know where we need to improve access for you. Hopefully you will never be needed here again but creating a clear path for any emergency responder is a good idea for all islanders, for their safety and ours.
