Along with so many others, I’m saddened at the plans for the current Island Quilter space. Island Quilter offers a destination for quilters and stichers, a glorious burst of color on gray winter days and a perpetual source of visual inspiration.
Seeing accomplished debater Callan Foster acknowledged as team captain in the paper this morning, alongside news of our beloved Vashon High School Basketball team placing at State gives me pause to share a parent’s reflection on the value of competition, specifically in debate.
Sadly, the Vashon Island Cemetery gravesite of Ryan Krug was vandalized sometime between late afternoon March 13 and early afternoon March 14.
Like so many islanders, I’m shocked and saddened at the impending loss of the quilt shop. Walking into the shop is like stepping into a kaleidoscope of color. It is an asset to the island.
I’m writing in regard to the article about the portended sale of the Robinson building that now houses the quilt shop (“Quilt Shop to move off-island as building sells,” Feb. 18.) I am disturbed at how the article was written.
I decided Christmas this year would be lessons for all the grandkids instead of our usual “play-for-three-day toys.”
I would not presume to speculate on the status of Mr. Spock’s eyebrows, but mine were elevated while reading Ms. Twisdale’s recent letter.
Because March Twisdale has been so active in her efforts to spread doubt about the safety of vaccines, I think it is important to respond to her latest letter to The Beachcomber titled “Arguments supporting vaccines were only anecdotal.”
Thank you, March Twisdale, for your response to my memories of what it was like to have survived the pre-vaccine epidemic era (“Arguments supporting vaccines were only anecdotal,” March 5).
I was disappointed that the article about the closing of the quilt shop (“Quilt shop to move off-island as building sells,” Feb. 18) lacked much information from the sellers about the sale.
I am just so disheartened about the gossip in this town. I understand there is support for the quilt shop and rightfully so.
Community sentiment supports keeping the gem that is Island Quilter on Vashon in the heart of town.
The quilt store is a wonderful place on Vashon. There’s no dispute. At the same time, I couldn’t read all the recent letters about the quilt shop having to move and not respond.
