A new season for the Vashon Chamber Music Series will debut on Friday with a concert of music by Beethoven, Prokofiev and Brahms.
Players will include cellists Rowena Hammill and Douglas Davis, who are the artistic directors of the series, joined by pianist Jeanine Jacobson and violinist Karin Choo.
The series will continue on Nov. 8, with pianist Jane Harty, violinist Ron Patterson and Davis playing Rachmaninoff’s Trio in G Minor. Choo and viola player Roxana Patterson will join in for a string quartet.
Jane Harty is a recitalist of solo piano and chamber music repertoire. She holds a doctoral degree from the University of Southern California and studied at L’Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. She has appeared in recital with members of the Seattle Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Northwest Sinfonietta and blues, jazz and world musicians. Her work also includes instruction in piano performance. She is also a harpsichordist and Bach specialist.
On Jan. 19, the series will bring Seattle Symphony clarinetist Laura de Luca and violinist Mikhail Shmidt to Vashon. They will join Hammill, Davis, viola player Heather Bentley and violinist Natasha Bazhanov to perform a program that includes the clarinet quintet by Weber and the ninth string quartet of Shostakovich.
Series regulars, Trio Pardalote, will present the Feb. 23 program, joined by acclaimed Seattle composer, Wayne Horvitz. They will play a piece especially written for them by Horvitz that features his signature electronics.
An audience favorite from last year, the Finisterra Trio, will return on March 28 for another evening of repertoire, and then the season will close on May 4 with an all-string concert. The talents of violinists Artur Girsky and Natasha Bazhanov, along with viola player Julie Whitton, will be spotlighted, as they join Hammill and Davis for the Brahms G Major sextet.
