Open Air, an outdoor aerial festival, will launch its third annual presentation at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, on the grounds of Open Space for Arts & Community.

The event — described by organizers as a “splash of circus and magic in the meadow” — will feature performers including rope artist Terry Crane, performing with Upswing Dance Co. Local artists Janet McAlpin and Lynelle Sjoberg will debut a new piece, Martha Enson, Esther Edelman and a group of students she calls “her silkworms,” the mother/daughter duo of Elizabeth Klob and Madeleine Schroeder, Lisa Elliot and her students; Leah Mann, David Godsey and the Rock Island String Kollective will also perform. There will also be an appearance by Dragon, a creation of island designer and theater artist Patricia Toovey.

Attendees are urged to bring a picnic and a blanket to enjoy the mountain view and performances. The show is for all ages. Admission is by donation, with $10 suggested for adults and $3 for children.

No one will be turned away for lack of funds. The gate to the event opens at 3 p.m.
