Art history talk looks at B.C. artist

Art Talks about BC artist

Pioneering Canadian artist Emily Carr’s visionary British Columbia images will be the subject of Vashon Center for the Arts’ Art Talks at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Kay White Hall.

After studying avant-garde art in Paris in 1910, Carr used expressive colors to convey her passion for the forests and native villages of her beloved Northwest Coast.

Her two inspirations were the majestic landscape of British Columbia and the culture of its indigenous peoples.

Though she did not receive widespread recognition of her work until her later years, Carr was one of the first painters in Canada to adopt a Modernist and Post-Impressionist painting style.
