Artist’s work focuses on water

Island artist exhibits paintings at Tacoma’s Gathering Space gallery

The Gathering Space, a student-operated fine art gallery on the campus of Bellarmine Prep High School and established by Vashon artists and Bellarmine art teachers, Tom Gross-Shader and Ben Meeker will show the paintings of island artist Nan Leiter for the month of February.

Leiter paints large scale “metaphorical representations,” which combine self-referential, introspective figures and personally significant water landscapes such as rain, endangered aquifers and rivers, and Puget Sound.

Leiter’s water reverence will also be featured in multiple “walking with water” guided meditations that extend the themes of her paintings into an experiential 3D realm. Leiter’s work asks viewers to question and think about water in all of its forms and locations.
