SOLD OUT: Laugh holiday stress away tonight

The 38th Annual Seattle International Comedy Competition, billed as “America’s biggest touring comedy festival,” started Nov. 2 and is continuing nightly until a winner is crowned on Nov. 26 at the Seattle Comedy Underground.

At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday the competition’s five finalists — which have been whittled down from a pool of 32 and have made it through 16 shows — will stop to do a show at the Vashon Theatre. Laughs are guaranteed and the event is sold out.

Music, humor for dark times: Attend post-Thanksgiving show and pie potluck

Island performing artist Kevin Joyce will be joined by Rebekah Kuzma and a stellar band of Seattle musicians for an evening of music from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Kay White Hall. The concert will present Joyce’s original tunes — everything from ballads to R&B and alt-rock — as well as funny and poignant stories. Bring a pie for the pie potluck at intermission.

Tickets are $25 general admission, $23 for VCA members and $21 for seniors and students. Purchase tickets by calling the VCA front desk anytime between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 206-436-5131 or at vashoncenterforthearts.org.

Sing along in the key of Thanksgiving

Join the Free Range Folk Choir for a sing-along Concert in the Key of Thanksgiving at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Vashon High School theater. Enjoy harmonic vocal arrangements of Simon and Garfunkle’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Down on the Corner,” The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and other songs of peace, strength, support and joy. Northwest and international folk tunes are also on the playlist.

Under the direction of Shane Jewell, the choir celebrates the ways that music from around the world can lift the spirit and cultivate community. Everyone is welcome to join their voices with those of the choir.

Suggested donation is $5 to $10, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
