Audubon releases new calendar, will show images Friday

When the Vashon-Maury Island Audubon Society first invited island photographers to submit images of local birds for a new calendar, it received just a few. Year two brought several more. This year, over 200 photos were submitted. What to do when the calendar features a mere 30 images? Hold a slide show on First Friday at the Land Trust Building, said board member Sarah Driggs.

“It’s a looping show of all the fabulous photos,” she said. “We appreciate the submissions, wanted to share them with the community and thank photographers.”

The calendars will be sold Friday and around town for $15. Proceeds support Audubon’s bi-monthly speaker program, Chautauqua Elementary’s fourth-grade birding program and advocacy work.

“The calendar is a community project,” Driggs said. “There is also information that provides a window into bird life on our island.”
