Beloved island author celebrated

The Vashon Heritage Museum will celebrate the birthday of beloved former island resident and world-famous author Betty MacDonald from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the author’s birthday, Sunday, March 26, at Vashon High School. MacDonald would have been 110 years old.

The celebration will include applesauce cake from a recipe that belonged to MacDonald’s mother and a presentation plus Q &A with Paula Becker, author of the recently published biography “Looking for Betty MacDonald: The Egg, The Plague, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, and I.”

MacDonald, best known for her runaway best-seller, “The Egg and I,” lived on Vashon in the 1950s, where she wrote “Onions in the Stew” about life on the island.
