Vashon Center for the Arts is accepting quilt entries for “Vashon Island Quilt Exhibition,” slated to open Friday, March 2, at the Koch Gallery.

Quilts of all types — personal, community, vintage and contemporary — may be entered in the juried show.

Koch Gallery Manager Devin Grimm said that quilts, like other art forms, “provide a creative medium for fabric artists to communicate a message, tell a story and evoke conversations. Historically, quilts were created by hand for practical reasons. Today, quilting has evolved into a medium for artistic expression. One constant is the role quilts play in American art history. It is this rich history and variety of techniques currently explored by local fabric artists that will be on exhibit during the show.”

Roncone was born and raised in upstate New York. In 2002, she moved to the Pacific Northwest, where she began to take her poetry more seriously.
She hosted a poetry open mic in Seattle for more than 10 years before moving to Vashon to enjoy the quiet and wild.
She recently published the poetry anthology “Three Birds Dreaming” with two other poets, one from the island, to celebrate writing a poem a day for more than six years. She continues this practice to better understand the brilliant magic of words.
