Celebrate KVSH third birthday bash with some air guitar

Vashon’s own community radio station, Voice of Vashon, invites all islanders to help celebrate the station’s third anniversary with a Birthday Bash Lip Sync Battle at 8 p.m. Friday at the Red Bike.

The radio crew are encouraging all Vashonites to polish up their air guitars for the evening’s contest.

Arlette Moody — who according to KVSH authorities is “Vashon’s version of Catherine Zeta-Jones” — will host the evening, which will perhaps show islanders in a brand new light.

The celebration will start off with a warm-up performance by VoV’s Voice of Vashon winner, Gus Reeves and his family. Moody will come next, setting up the Lip Sync Battle by performing one of her own acts. Then, competing pairs of lip syncers will pull out all the stops as they perform to one of their favorite tunes. Audience applause will determine the winner of each paired battle.

In a recent KVSH press release, organizers said the event is “great fun a la Jimmy Fallon and The Spike Network’s Lip Sync Battle.” Costumes and comedy are the only requirements. Lip syncers with maximum vamp will have the advantage, as well as the most fun.

VoV’s party planners have already tapped some performers in addition to those who would like to participate. Sign-up is by email at lipsync@voiceofvashon.org.

“This is your chance to jump onstage and perform that song you’ve been practicing in your car for years,” the party planners said.

Tickets are available at Vashon Bookshop and brownpapertickets.com.
