Chorale to perform its spring concert this weekend

Vashon Island Chorale will perform its spring concert, “Victory and Beauty,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, with a pre-concert lecture at 6:45 p.m., and at 3 p.m. Sunday, with a lecture at 2:45 p.m., at the Kay White Hall.

The two-part concert will feature Franz Joseph Hayden’s famous composition, “Lord Nelson Mass,” which is often linked to the victory of Lord Nelson against Napoleon, and Abraham Kaplan’s light-hearted “Song of Songs,” a selection of verse from the eponymous Bible love story. “Song of Songs” held its world premiere at a concert sung by the chorale on Vashon in 2013.

Gary D. Cannon directs the chorale accompanied by soloists Jennifer Krikawa (soprano), Kathryn Weld (mezzo), Gabriel Gargari (tenor) and Andrew Krikawa (baritone).

Tickets are sold at vashoncenterforthearts.org, VCA and Heron’s Nest Gallery.
