Country rock band open summer concert series

The free Summer Concerts in the Park series will open with the country rock Garth Reeves Band from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Ober Park.

Reeves is a Seattle singer and guitarist with strong ties to Vashon. He has played professionally for more than 18 years. Along the way, he’s performed and collaborated with some of Vashon’s leading lights, including Jason Staczek, Pete Droge and Ian Moore. He’s also been a member of Dangermouse, Nubbin, Goodness and Blue Spark bands.

Now, as a solo artist and in collaboration with others, the musician is expanding on work that explores the American musical vernacular. Together with producer/keyboardist and Vashon resident Staczek, Reeves has been recording a follow-up to his first record, “Nothing but Time,” in several Seattle studios. Collaborating with Moore, Droge, Timo Ellis and Garth’s regular touring band — The Unfaithful Servants with Jeff Fielder, Andy Stoller, and Mike Musburger — Reeves and Staczek are honing the song craft and production style of Reeves first record.

“Whether you’re there to dance or listen, this is a band you don’t want to miss,” Pete Welch of Vashon Events said.
