Danny Newcomb and the Sugarmakers: Free music at VCA

Vashon Events is in a partnership with Vashon Center for the Arts to showcase local bands at the Kay White Theater, in a concert series sponsored by John L. Scott Vashon. Most of the shows will be on first Fridays with a few exceptions.

On Saturday, May 12, Danny Newcomb and The Sugarmakers will perform at the venue.

Newcomb’s most recent CD is called “All The Way.” Self-released and self-produced, All the Way was recorded in a newly built studio in Newcomb’s attic.

“I’ve never had the time before to sit with a song for a week and then go back and tear it down to the drums, rewrite the guitars, the words, the vocal melody, and then recut it all,” Newcomb said. “I guess it sounds simple, sitting with something, but how often do we really get the chance? It’s only when you have to do it yourself.”

The record was mixed by Martin Feveyear, who will be running and mixing sound for the VCA show on May 12.

Performing with Newcomb on Saturday will be Rick Friel on bass and Joel Trueblood on the drums.
