Vashon’s vibrant ceramic art scene will take center stage on Aug. 10, with the opening of a new group show at Vashon Summer Arts Fest, the two-month long celebration of local art at Vashon Center for the Arts. The ceramics show, curated by Jon-Eric Schafer and Lin Holly, will include a long list of local ceramic artists, including Annie Hancock, Kiya Badding, Sonja Bergström, Vicki Browne, Mary L. Buss, Cory Winn, April Dalinis, David Blad, Lisa deFaccio, Gary English, Karen Fevold, Lin Holley, Mary Hosick, Liz Lewis, Gale Lurie, Stephanie Marotta, Abraham McBride, Eric Nelson, Jane Neubauer, Mary Rose O’Reilley, Irene Otis, Diane Pirlot, Jane Piston, Steve Roache, Cathy Sarkowsky, Jon-Eric Schafer, Sharon Munger, Marla Smith, Rozanne Thayer, Barbara Wells and Hazel Wilding.

Demonstrations and hands-on activities will augment the exhibit.

From noon to 5 p.m. on Aug. 11, ceramic artists will demonstrate various techniques, including throwing on the wheel and a variety of hand-building techniques. Artists will also guide kids and adults in hand-building ceramic art. From noon to 5 p.m. on Aug. 18, several decorative and glazing techniques will be demonstrated and projects then fired in raku kilns at VCA. Artists demonstrating that day will include Karen Fevold, Lin Holley, Mary Hosick, Liz Lewis, Gale Lurie, Estevan Roache, Mary Robinson, Cathy Sarkowsky, Jon-Eric Schafer and others.

In addition to all this, art shows by Connie Conroy and Vashon Makerspace will continue through Aug. 19 at the arts center. For more information, visit vashoncenterforthearts.org.
