Island musician releases new single

Longtime guitarist and songwriter Danny Newcomb hung up his musical ax in the late 1990s and moved to Vashon to become a farmer. But he never quite gave up on music.

Late last year, the musician/farmer released the album “Masterwish.” Now he and his band the Sugarmakers are releasing the vinyl single “King of Nothing” and celebrating with a release show at 8 p.m. Friday at Home Sweet Home, next to Snapdragon Bakery & Café.

The single was recorded on Mike McCready’s Hockeytalkter label and mixed by islander Martin Feveyear, with Jason Staczek on piano and The Sugarmakers’ band members Rick Friel on lead bass and Faith Stankevicious on drums.

“King of Nothing” follows Newcomb’s second full-length album, “All the Way,” which was released last December and distributed nationally through Think Indie Distribution.

The Seattle Times says the new record “is crammed with the same brilliant hooks and harmonies that made their debut record, ‘Masterwish,’ such a treat.”

Tickets are $10 and include the 7-inch vinyl single “King of Nothing.” Tickets are available at brownpapertickets.com.

This show is presented by island event planner Debra Heesch.
