The late island artist Art Hansen will be remembered and celebrated on Sunday, Aug. 20, at Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA).

A private memorial for family, relatives and close friends will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. followed by a public reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the VCA lobby and Koch Gallery.

Former VCA curator and longtime friend of Hansen’s, Janice Mallman, said the public reception “is for artists, collectors of his work and his many island friends.”

She added that if guests wish to contribute to the celebration of his life, they are welcome to bring a dessert to share.
