Musical double-header features Pretenders, Talking Heads tribute bands

The Red Bike will feature two bands — Jealous Dogs and Little Creatures — in one night, beginning at 8 p.m. Friday.

Jealous Dogs is Seattle’s only Pretenders tribute band, and the group has played on Vashon before to packed houses at the Red Bike. The name of the group comes from a cut off the Pretenders II album, and the veteran musicians hail from Seattle. The four-piece group, which joined forces based on a common appreciation for the Pretenders’ blend of new-wave and punk rock, includes Sherri Jerome on guitar/vocals, Aimee Zoey on drums, Mikel McDermott on bass and Laurie Miller on lead guitar.

Next up? Little Creatures, the local band that will be making its debut. Billed as “Central Vashon’s only Talking Heads tribute band,” Little Creatures will play highly danceable Talking Heads songs.

“From the Talking Heads era of the late 1970s, the middle years with Brian Eno and Adrian Belew or their later work incorporating synthesizers and world beats, there will be something for everyone,” a press release stated.

Little Creatures is the brainchild of island musicians and hardcore Talking Heads fans Stephen Buffington on drums and Andy James on guitar/vocals. They are joined by Dorsey Davis from the FieldHands on bass/vocals, Rick Vanselow from Fendershine on guitar/vocals, Alex Drissell on keyboard/vocals and Levin Pugsley on percussion.
