Vashon Center for the Arts’ Arts & Humanities series will present a talk by Dr. Peter Dorman at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Katherine L White Hall. Dorman is an international leader in the field of Egyptology and the study of the ancient Near East.

Vashon Center for the Arts’ Arts &Humanities series will present a talk by Dr. Peter Dorman at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Katherine L White Hall.

Dorman is an international leader in the field of Egyptology and the study of the ancient Near East. A noted historiographer, epigrapher and philologist, he is the author of several major books and articles on ancient Egypt. He directed the University of Chicago’s Epigraphic Survey, which recorded hieroglyphic texts and carved reliefs on Egyptian temples and the tombs at Luxor.

Currently professor of history and archaeology at the American University of Beirut, Dorman will discuss the science and challenge of preserving and translating Egypt’s ancient historical and religious record.
