Restored pipe organ played in concert for homelessness

“Joyful Joyful,” a concert featuring the works by J.S. and C.P.E Bach, Mendelssohn, Handel, Sousa and other composers, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, in celebration of the restoration of its 121-year-old pipe organ.

A key part of the restoration, accomplished by Tim Drewes this winter, was to bring the organ into concert pitch, making it compatible with other instruments. Its new voice will harmonize with flutist Nancy Morgan, violinist Gaye Detzer, oboist Irene Alexander, trumpeter Vincent Young and vocalist Erin Durrett. Everyone will be invited to sing along to Sousa’s famous patriotic anthem, “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Donations will be taken at the door. All proceeds will be given to the Interfaith Council tor Prevent Homelessness.
