Salish Sea early music festival returns

The Salish Sea Early Music Festival’s next performance, the fourth out of five for 2017, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 10, at Bethel Church.

The concert will feature innovative baroque chamber music for flute, two violins and harpsichord from Francois Andre Danican Philidor’s “The Art of Modulation.” The new program follows The Salish Sea’s exploration of this collection of sinfonias performed on Vashon in 2015.

Flutist Jeffery Cohan will play the baroque one-keyed flute, with Linda Melsted on baroque violin; Romaric Pokorny on baroque viola and violin; and Johathan Oddie on harpsichord.

The evening will also include concerti for flute and strings by Pergolesi and Telemann, continuing the festivities for Telemann’s 250th anniversary.

The Salish Sea Early Music Festival began in 2000, with the intent to feature some of the finest period instrument specialists from North America and Europe. The 2017 series will include five contrasting performances of chamber music from the Renaissance through Beethoven’s era.

Tickets are by suggested donation at the door.
