Local singer-songwriter Kat Eggleston’s new play, “The Cyclone Line,” will open on Friday at 7:30 p.m. with a second showing at &:30 p.m. Saturday, both at the Katherine L White Hall.

Based on stories told to Eggleston by her beloved father Al, “The Cyclone Line,” is an personal ode to her father’s early life in Oklahoma and a reference to the hardships of the historically ignored Dust Bowl era. The play’s title is the name Oklahomans used for the telephone, which in the 30s became the source for weather reports on tornados and the devastating dust storms.

Eggleston has written many songs inspired by her father’s memories of the Oklahoma dustbowl, and she will perform many of the songs in the play.

Eggleston will be joined by Seattle-based actor Brian Gunter and is directed by former Vashonite Charlotte Tiencken. “The Cyclone Line “will also have a reading at Seattle Repertory Theatre in June as part of the Northwest Playwrights Alliance.

Tickets are available at Heron’s Nest Gallery, Vashon Center for the Arts and at vashoncenterforthearts.com.
