A fine affair for our four-legged friends
The Fur Ball, Vashon Island Pet Protectors’ sixth annual auction, was a success, organizers said, drawing more than 200 people and netting around $51,000 for the nonprofit animal welfare group. Some big-ticket items drew big bucks. A guitar signed by Pearl Jam, for instance, garnered $3,250; a night at the Sorrento Hotel fetched $550; and a bottle of wine (1986, Chateau d’Yquem), donated by Stephen McClure from the Vashon Wine Shop, went for $400. Geoff Fletcher, right, emcee for the evening, said he and other VIPP stalwarts were pleased by the results; the organization raised about $6,000 more than last year. “We’re really, really happy that in these economic times we can get that kind of response and that many people to turn out,” he said.
