Junior rowers came home victorious from Nationals last weekend, where one Vashon boat medaled, three finished in the top 10 in their regattas and all 16 Vashon rowers qualified for the finals in their events. From Vashon, eight boats competed, tying for second most in this year’s championships.
Three Vashon High School athletes competed in the 1A state track and field championships last weekend, and one returned with a medal from the prestigious tournament. Two young islanders who attend private schools in Seattle also put forward award-winning performances at State, which took place at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
Vashon’s Seals Swim Team learned about water polo to cap off a tough but successful summer swim season that ended two weeks ago. The upper-level swimmers learned water polo from Jennie Darling, a former member of the nationally ranked San Jose State University water polo team.
The Vashon Wrestlers went 10-1 at the Oregon State Team Wrestling Camp July 7 to 10, placing fifth out of 36 teams from Washington, Oregon and California.
