While only individual wrestlers can earn team points, the entire team can still contribute to the success of one teammate. This has never been as evident as it was last Thursday in Eatonville, when the Pirate squad gave one of their own the endurance he needed to pull down a victory that won them the meet, 39-34.

Park commissioner's use of word ‘whore’ calls for rebuttal | Letter to the Editor
Jan 22 2013, 1:58 PM I read Bill Ameling’s recent letter to the editor with startled dismay (“Beachcomber failed to provide context,” Jan. 16).On behalf of disempowered and abused men, women and children forced into the sex trade, I need to speak up. The quote which Bill offered is offensive on its face — and based in deep misinformation.
Ameling’s problems are of his own making | Letter to the Editor
Jan 22 2013, 2:00 PM Bill Ameling has devoted almost three decades to the Vashon Park District and deserves our thanks for his many years of hard work and service. However, his forceful and self described “alpha dog” personality has become something of a human resources problem, and sadly, there’s no HR department to call him in for a good talking to. Other board members seem willing to tolerate this behavior, or excuse it by saying, “Well, that’s just Bill.”
