Three Vashon women — Mary Kay Rauma, Donna Zaglin and Lonnie Shiosaki — were awarded one of the Rotary’s highest commendations at the Vashon Island Rotary Club’s meeting Friday. The women were honored with the Paul Harris award for their years of civic-minded service on Vashon, said Rotarian Gene Lipitz, who nominated the women.

“All three are an example of women who always say ‘yes’ to an organization that asks for help,” Lipitz said. “They go above and beyond. ... They contribute enormously to the community as a whole.”

The three women, Lipitz said, have been extremely active in countless organizations — from the PTSA to the Vashon Dance Academy. The award is bestowed by the club on behalf of the Rotary International Foundation and in honor of Harris, who founded the Rotary in 1905.
