Vashon Park District board seeks new commissioner

The Vashon Park District is looking for candidates to fill an opening on its board of commissioners. Board chair Mike Collins recently announced he will move off the Island, vacating his position in November.

An interim commissioner appointed by the board will serve until a permanent one is elected in 2011. Those interested in the position should submit letters by 4 p.m., Oct. 15. Letters can be dropped of at the park district office at Ober Park, mailed to P.O. Box 1608, Vashon, WA 98070, or e-mailed to wbraicks@vashonparkdistrict.org.

Interviews of qualified candidates will be held at the park district office at 7 p.m., Oct. 26. The board will vote on a new member at Collins' last meeting on Nov. 9.

Park district executive director Wendy Braicks said she encourages interested candidates to attend upcoming board meetings and observe the budget review process. The next board meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12 at the park district office.
