Public meeting scheduled to discuss hunting in Island Center Forest
October 19, 2010 · 10:58 AM
King County officials will come to Vashon on Wednesday, Oct. 27, to discuss hunting in the county-owned Island Center Forest, a popular recreation site on Vashon.
The public meeting follows the county’s decision earlier this month to temporarily ban the discharge of firearms in Island Center Forest — a decision it made after residents expressed concerns about the safety of hunting in the well-used forested landscape.
The meeting, according to a county news release, will give Islanders a chance to discuss the county’s management of the working forest and nature preserve. It will begin with an open house at 6:30 p.m. followed by a presentation and a question-and-answer period at Vashon High School.
Officials from the county and the state Department of Fish & Wildlife will attend the gathering.
The county has also established an online public comment forum, www.parksfeedback.com, where visitors can provide comments. Comments can also be mailed to the county at King County Parks, 201 South Jackson St., Suite 700 Seattle, WA, 98104.
