The Washington State Tran-sportation Commission approved a 2.5 percent increase in ferry fares on Monday.

The fare hike was recommended

by the ferries division within the Washington State Department of Transportation to help breach Washington State Ferries’ large deficit.

Though the vote was unanimous, the Attorney General has been asked to deliver an opinion on whether the Legislature should ratify the fare

decision.

The initiative will take effect Dec. 5.
