A 23-year-old Vashon man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center early Friday morning after he lost control of his Acura sedan and crashed into a telephone pole.

The accident apparently took place around 1:30 a.m. on Vashon Highway S.W. near the junction with Old Highway S.W. According to accident investigators from the King County Sheriff's Office, both alcohol and speed played a factor in the single-car accident; the young man was also not wearing his seatbelt. No one else was in the car.

As of Friday, he was listed in critical condition.
